What Is Soft Touch Lamination?

Soft touch lamination, also called suede lamination or velvet lamination, applies an ultra-fine matte film engineered to produce a silky, velvet-like tactile quality that is immediately recognizable to the touch. Unlike standard matte lamination, soft touch contains a specially formulated coating that creates a pronounced tactile effect โ€” the film has a gentle resistance and softness that communicates luxury and craftsmanship the moment a consumer picks up the package.

At Brisk Packaging, soft touch lamination is the signature finish for high-end cosmetics, fragrance, spirits, and technology packaging where the unboxing experience is as important as the product inside. The combination of a muted, slightly darker visual appearance with the distinctive tactile response creates a multi-sensory brand impression that consumers remember and associate with premium value. It consistently tests well in consumer research as a significant quality signal.

Soft touch pairs most powerfully with selective UV spot coating, foil stamping, and debossing applied over the soft film โ€” the contrast between the smooth matte ground and the sharp, shiny or textured applied elements creates packaging that is visually and physically engaging. Note that soft touch lamination requires care in handling during production as the film can be susceptible to marking; Brisk Packaging uses gloved handling protocols and anti-blocking interleaving throughout the finishing process.
