What Is UV Spot Coating?
UV spot coating uses ultraviolet-cured varnish applied through a custom die to specific areas of a printed and laminated surface, creating a raised, high-gloss finish precisely where the designer intends. The instant contrast between the high-shine spot-coated elements โ logos, product names, images โ and the surrounding matte or soft-touch laminated base creates a visual hierarchy that draws the eye and communicates premium quality through sophisticated design restraint.
Brisk Packaging's UV spot coating process achieves a noticeable build โ the coating adds measurable thickness to the treated areas, creating a subtle tactile ridge that consumers can feel when running a finger across the package surface. This combination of visual gloss and subtle texture reinforces the premium perception of the packaging and differentiates the brand on retail shelves where competing products rely solely on print for differentiation.
UV spot coating is applied after lamination in a separate finishing pass and requires a custom spot UV plate or digital mask for each design. It is most effective on dark or richly colored backgrounds where the gloss contrast is most dramatic, and on premium substrates like art card, SBS, and rigid box wraps where the lamination base is consistent. Brisk Packaging offers UV spot coating on folding cartons, rigid box lids, book covers, and label applications.
