About Mylar Material
Mylar, the trade name for biaxially oriented polyethylene terephthalate (BoPET) film, is the premier high-barrier material for flexible packaging applications where moisture, oxygen, and light exclusion are essential to product quality. Available from 3mil to 6mil in thickness, Mylar's oxygen transmission rate (OTR) is among the lowest of any flexible packaging film, making it indispensable for coffee bags, snack pouches, pharmaceutical blister films, and long-term food storage.
At Brisk Packaging, Mylar is used as the primary or laminate layer in stand-up pouches, flat pouches, zipper bags, and rollstock formats. It accepts solvent-based and UV-curable inks for photographic print quality across its metalized or transparent variants. When combined with an aluminum foil layer or metalized coating, Mylar pouches achieve shelf lives measured in months to years — far beyond what paper or standard poly films can offer.
Food-safe grades of Mylar are FDA-compliant and meet EU food contact regulations, making it appropriate for direct contact with dry goods, powders, liquids, and nutraceuticals. While Mylar is not currently recyclable through standard curbside programs, its barrier performance dramatically reduces food waste — an important consideration in lifecycle environmental assessments of flexible packaging systems.
