Custom Packaging for the
Pharmaceuticals & Healthcare Sector

The pharmaceutical packaging market exceeded $100 billion in 2024 and is one of the most tightly regulated sectors in the world. Every element of pharmaceutical packaging — from board grade to print colour, font size to tamper-evident seal type — is subject to regulatory scrutiny by the FDA, EMA, and other national authorities. Getting it wrong means product recalls, regulatory fines, and serious patient safety risks.

Custom Packaging Built for Pharmaceuticals & Healthcare

The pharmaceutical packaging market exceeded $100 billion in 2024 and is one of the most tightly regulated sectors in the world. Every element of pharmaceutical packaging — from board grade to print colour, font size to tamper-evident seal type — is subject to regulatory scrutiny by the FDA, EMA, and other national authorities. Brisk Packaging has built specialised pharmaceutical packaging capabilities that balance regulatory compliance with brand impact. Our pharma cartons are produced on dedicated lines using GMP-aligned processes. We support serialisation and variable data printing for batch numbers, expiry dates, and 2D barcodes required by the Drug Supply Chain Security Act (DSCSA) and EU Falsified Medicines Directive (FMD).

Beyond prescription medications, we serve the fast-growing nutraceutical and supplement market — a segment where packaging is a critical purchase driver. Supplement brands increasingly invest in premium packaging with bold graphics, metallic finishes, and window panels that command shelf space and communicate product quality in the absence of clinical credibility.

Industry Packaging Trends

  • 2Serialisation mandate driving 100% digital printing adoption for pharma cartons
  • 3Senior-friendly packaging balancing child resistance with ease of opening
  • 4Nutraceutical brands investing in premium packaging to compete with OTC drugs
  • 5Sustainable pharma packaging growing despite strict material requirements

Expert Packaging Tips

  • Always specify tamper-evident features: perforated glue tabs, security seals, or shrink bands
  • Leave adequate bleed around mandatory warning text — regulators measure to the mm
  • Use high-contrast black text on white background for mandatory dosage information
  • Plan for serialisation from day one — adding it retrospectively disrupts artwork and raises costs
  • Braille embossing is mandatory in the EU and good practice globally for accessible packaging

Pharmaceuticals & Healthcare Packaging FAQs

Answers to common questions regarding logistics, materials, and ordering.

What tamper-evident options do you offer for medicine boxes?
We offer three main tamper-evident solutions: perforated glue tabs that tear visibly on first opening, tamper-evident adhesive security seals applied to the closure points, and full-body shrink bands with perforated tear lines. For OTC products, perforated glue tabs are the most cost-effective solution and widely accepted by retailers and regulators.
Can you print batch numbers and expiry dates on medicine cartons?
Yes. We support variable data printing (VDP) for batch numbers, expiry dates, lot codes, and 2D barcodes including DataMatrix codes required by DSCSA and EU FMD. This is done at the print stage or via a secondary inline inkjet system, depending on your volume and reprinting frequency.
Do you produce Braille labels on pharmaceutical packaging?
Yes. Braille embossing on pharmaceutical cartons is mandatory in the European Union and recommended globally for accessibility. We produce Braille using a dedicated embossing die applied after printing, ensuring the dots meet EU Pharmacopoeia standards for dot height (0.2–0.3mm) and spacing.
What board grade do you recommend for supplement boxes?
For supplement bottles and tubs (100–500g), we recommend 350gsm SBS board with a gloss or matte lamination finish. For premium supplement brands, 400gsm board with soft-touch lamination and foil stamping creates a pharmaceutical-grade appearance that commands higher retail shelf prices.
Can you help with child-resistant medicine packaging?
Yes. We offer CR-certified folding carton solutions with push-in/squeeze/lift mechanisms that meet ASTM D3475 and BS EN 14375 standards. We also work with tube, bottle, and blister packaging suppliers and can coordinate full packaging solutions for pharmaceutical clients.
